How are Smyles calculated?

A
Written by Alina Macovei

Smyles are our in-app points that represent the effort you put into physical activity. They let a whole range of different activities be compared fairly, so whether you run, cycle, swim or walk, everyone's effort counts on the same leaderboards.

When we receive an activity, we look at the activity type, its duration and the distance covered to work out how many Smyles to award. This is based on Metabolic Equivalent Task Minutes, or MET Minutes, which is a recognised way of measuring how much energy an activity takes. If you'd like to know more, you can read about how MET works.

As a rough guide:

10,000 steps gives you around 400 Smyles

A 10km run gives you around 600 Smyles

A 20km bike ride gives you around 500 Smyles

The harder the effort, the more Smyles you'll earn.
